1 John 2: 17- “The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
Jesus became our redeemer so we can be saved from our sinful nature in preparation for our reunion with our creator. Our sinful nature has been pulling humanity away from their creator since the sin of Adam and Eve. Consequently, we consistently wrestle with doing the will of God. Therefore, God gave us His divine manual called BIBLE (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth) so we can be aligned with His will and inherit the heavenly kingdom He has prepared for us.
Obedience brings our lives into agreement with God’s purposes rather than our own. It is our response to God’s truth and our submission to God’s authority and wisdom. Through obedience, we demonstrate our trust in God and are realigned with His will. Therefore, we read in 1 John 2:17, “The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever” (1 John 2:17). Obedience shifts our focus away from temporary desires and aligns our hearts with what God’s will.
Alignment with God’s will requires submission. James 4:7 calls us plainly to “submit yourselves, then, to God.” Obedience is the practical expression of that submission. Each act of obedience says, “Lord, Your way is better than mine,” even when God’s direction challenges our preferences or disrupts our plans.
Obedience aligning us with God’s will is like adjusting a compass before beginning a journey. When the compass is off, even small steps lead farther away from the destination, but once it is aligned with true north, every step moves in the right direction. In the same way, obedience recalibrates our lives to God’s will so that our daily choices lead where He intends, not where our own desires might drift.
Let us not forget that the world and its pleasures will pass away, and every human being will have to give an account for how they lived before God. In light of this truth, obedience is not optional or casual; it is a wise response to eternity, aligning our lives now with the will of the One we will one day stand before.
Question For Reflection
How might your daily choices change if you viewed obedience as aligning with God’s eternal will rather than reacting to temporary pressures?
Prayer
Lord, help us to live with eternity in view and hearts fully surrendered to Your will. Align our thoughts, choices, and actions with Your purposes, so that our lives honor You today and stand faithful before You tomorrow.
