Yes, I am a Believer

That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

What does it mean to be a believer? What do believers believe? It can be difficult for non-Christians to comprehend why Christians call themselves believers. In some cases, the word believer may come across as one who is part of a religious cult, or a member of some secret society. But it is not. Most Christian believers are simple and ordinary people who prioritize their relationship with God through Jesus Christ and are trying to live as a spiritual being having an earthly experience.

To be a believer is to confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that Jesus is the resurrected savior of the world. This confession leads to a personal decision to live a Christ-centered life according to the teachings of the Bible. Authentic believers are focused on doing the great commission work of Jesus Christ. They are not perfect individuals, but they are perfecting their spirituality through prayer and the study of the Bible.

Authentic believers are not ashamed to let their Christian light shine wherever they are. Their words are filled with grace, and their foremost desire is to be a witness for Jesus Christ in every circumstance. They are heaven bound though they try to live out their Christian faith practically.

Christian Believers believe that God is real. They believe that God was manifested in Jesus Christ, who is the second person in the Trinity. Christian believers believe in the rapture and are anxiously awaiting the return of Jesus Christ. They long for God’s kingdom to be here on earth as it is in heaven.

When Paul wrote the letter to the Roman church Christians were persecuted for their faith. Indeed, he wrote the letter while under house arrest because of his belief in Jesus. Some Christians were martyred for their faith in Jesus. Yet, the gospel message spread throughout because of the devotion of those who believed in the message of Jesus Christ.

The late Rev. Timothy Wright wrote a song with the following lyrics: “I believe in Jesus Christ, He's the giver of all life. From heaven, He came down, oh, what joy I've found.” The Christian belief is not supernatural. It is pragmatically transformational. Our belief shapes our identity and informs our spirituality. It gives meaning to our earthly existence and gives us hope in hopeless situations.

Yes, I am a believer in Jesus Christ. I want the whole world to share my faith and experience the joy that I have had since I gave my life to Christ. I believe the Holy Spirit is the spiritual power source that helps us to be transformed into the image of Christ. The Spirit enables and empowers believers to be “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that [they] may declare the praises of him who called [them] out of darkness into his wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9).”

The best decision I ever made was to surrender my life to Jesus Christ. My greatest hope and dream are centered on my relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Because I am a believer, for me to live is Christ, and to die is my gain (Philippians 1:21). Yes, I am unashamedly a believer in the Godship of Jesus Christ.
