Walking in Freedom with Confidence

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. Hebrews 10:35

For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. Proverbs 3:26

Confidence is sometimes misunderstood in Christian circles because it can be confused with pride or arrogance, while humility is rightly honored as a Christlike virtue. Biblical confidence, however, is not rooted in self-exaltation, personal superiority, or independence from God. It flows from knowing who we are in Christ, trusting the reliability of God’s promises, and believing that He will provide the grace and strength necessary to fulfill His purpose. When confidence is anchored in God, it works together with humility to produce courage, obedience, resilience, and boldness without pride.

Walking in freedom with confidence means living with the assurance that our identity, strength, and purpose are secure in Christ. This confidence does not depend on personal ability, outward success, changing circumstances, or the approval of others; it rests on the unchanging character and presence of God. Because He is with us, we can embrace the gifts He has given us, pursue our calling without constant comparison, and move forward in obedience even when we feel uncertain. Freedom allows us to acknowledge our limitations without becoming controlled by insecurity or assuming defeat.

Hebrews 10:35 warns believers not to cast away their confidence, because confidence can be weakened by disappointment, delay, criticism, hardship, or unanswered expectations. We may begin our journey boldly, yet become tempted to shrink back when opposition increases or God’s promises take longer to unfold than anticipated. Nevertheless, steadfast confidence carries a great reward because it enables us to persevere faithfully while waiting for God’s purposes to be fulfilled. Walking confidently does not mean that fear will never arise; it means that fear is no longer allowed to govern our decisions or prevent us from obeying God.

Proverbs 3:26 declares that “the Lord will be your confidence,” revealing that God Himself is the true foundation of our assurance. He guides our steps, strengthens us in weakness, and protects us from the traps of fear, insecurity, and deception. Humility acknowledges that everything we possess comes from God, while confidence trusts that what He has provided is sufficient for the work He has called us to accomplish. Therefore, we must refuse to let past failures, present difficulties, or uncertainty about the future imprison us, choosing instead to walk freely, depend on God completely, and step boldly into His purpose with courage, perseverance, and peace.

Lord, help me not to cast away my confidence when I face opposition, disappointment, or delay. Teach me to place my trust fully in You, knowing that You are my strength, my security, and the foundation of my confidence.
