Walking in Freedom with Authority

I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. Luke 10:19

Authority is not the same as power. The New Testament word most often translated authority is exousia, meaning delegated right, privilege, jurisdiction, or permission to act. The Greek word for power is dunamis, from which we get the word dynamite. It refers to strength, miraculous ability, and divine enabling.

All authority in heaven and on earth belongs to Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18). Because He possesses supreme authority, He is able to delegate spiritual authority to His followers, empowering them to stand against the enemy and advance His purposes (Luke 10:19). Therefore, biblical authority is never exercised with pride, arrogance, or self-reliance. Instead, it flows from a life that is submitted to Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and anchored in God's Word.

What does it mean to walk in freedom with authority? Walking in freedom with authority means living confidently in our identity in Christ and exercising the spiritual authority He has given us over fear, temptation, deception, and the schemes of the enemy. Those who acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Savior are not called to live timidly or remain bound by fear; they are called to walk in freedom with confidence, obedience, and the authority Christ has entrusted to them. This authority does not come from personal strength or a desire to control others, but from submission to Jesus, dependence on the Holy Spirit, and obedience to God’s Word. As believers choose faith over fear, truth over lies, and obedience over compromise, they demonstrate that Christ not only sets people free but also empowers them to live victoriously for His kingdom and glory.

Before His disciples were sent out to minister, Jesus assured them that they would not face the enemy alone. He gave them authority over the power of the enemy, reminding them that victory would come not through their own strength but through His. In the same way, every believer who belongs to Christ has been called to walk in freedom with confidence, knowing that the authority of Jesus stands behind them.

Walking in freedom with authority is a daily decision to live from the victory Christ has already secured rather than from the fear of what the enemy might do. We do not fight for victory; we fight from victory because Jesus has already conquered sin, death, and Satan through His death and resurrection. As we stand on His promises, exercise the authority He has given us, and remain faithful to His calling, we become living testimonies that Christ not only sets His people free but also empowers them to walk victoriously every day.
