Use Your influence Intentionally
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
Influence is the impact we have on the way others think, respond, make decisions, and live, whether we realize it or not. Through our words, attitudes, choices, relationships, and example, we are continually communicating something to the people around us. Because others often observe how we handle pressure, treat people, and live out what we say we believe, we should be intentional about the influence we are creating.
Jesus teaches in Matthew 5:16 that our light should shine before others so that they may see our good deeds and glorify God. This means our influence should not be used merely to gain attention, recognition, or admiration, but to point people toward what is good and godly. We can do this by choosing encouragement over criticism, integrity over compromise, patience over anger, and compassion over indifference. When our actions consistently reflect the character of Christ, our lives become a visible expression of our faith.
Imagine a lighthouse standing along a dark shoreline. It does not chase ships, demand attention, or force them to change direction; it simply shines consistently, providing guidance and helping others avoid danger. In the same way, intentional influence does not require a title, platform, or large audience. A parent, friend, coworker, leader, neighbor, or church member can quietly shape another person’s direction through consistency, wisdom, kindness, and faithfulness.
Take time to consider the people who may be influenced by your life right now. What are your words, attitudes, decisions, and example teaching them? Ask God to help you use your influence in ways that strengthen others, encourage wise choices, and point people toward Him. You may not always know who is watching, but when you live intentionally, your life can become a light that helps someone else find their way.
Question for Reflection:How can you use your influence today to encourage, strengthen, or guide someone in a positive and godly direction?
Prayer:Lord, help me use my influence wisely and intentionally so that my words, actions, and example reflect Your character and point others toward You.
