The weapon of spiritual warfare: Feet fitted with the gospel of peace

and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Ephesians 6:15

In Ephesians 6:15, Paul teaches that believers must have their feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In ancient warfare, a soldier’s footwear was essential because it helped him stand securely, move with confidence, and remain steady during battle. Without proper footing, even a well-equipped soldier could slip, stumble, or lose ground. In the same way, the gospel of peace gives believers the spiritual stability needed to stand firm when life becomes difficult, confusing, or filled with conflict.

The gospel of peace refers to the good news that through Jesus Christ, believers have been reconciled to God. Because of Christ’s death and resurrection, we do not fight spiritual battles from panic, guilt, fear, or insecurity. Instead, we stand from a place of confidence, knowing that we belong to God and that His peace is greater than the chaos around us. This peace is not based on perfect circumstances, but on the finished work of Christ and the assurance that God is with us.

In spiritual warfare, the enemy often attacks our peace because peace keeps us grounded in God’s truth. When we are overwhelmed by anxiety, anger, confusion, bitterness, or division, we become more vulnerable to discouragement and spiritual distraction. However, when our feet are fitted with the gospel of peace, we can remain steady and move forward without being controlled by fear or conflict. God’s peace gives us the strength to resist the enemy and the wisdom to respond to difficult situations with grace and faith.

Having our feet fitted with the gospel of peace also means we are called to carry peace wherever God sends us. Believers are not only called to defend themselves spiritually, but also to represent Christ in a broken world. When others respond with anger, we can walk in grace; when division rises, we can become instruments of reconciliation; and when confusion spreads, we can bring the presence, truth, and love of Christ. Therefore, the gospel of peace prepares us to stand firm, walk faithfully, and bring God’s peace into places where the enemy has tried to create fear, chaos, and division.

Reflection Question

Where is God calling you to stand firm in His peace or bring His peace into a difficult situation today?

Prayer

Lord, fit my feet with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace, and help me stand firm in Your truth while carrying Your peace wherever You send me. Amen.
