The Lord of the Harvest

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Matthew 9:37-38

One reason believers should prepare for the harvest is that the God they serve is the Lord of the harvest. Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5:23–24, “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.” This passage reminds us that God is not only the One who calls us, but also the One who completes His work in us. Because He is faithful, believers can prepare for the harvest with confidence, knowing that fruitfulness does not depend on human strength alone. The harvest comes from God, and He is the One who sanctifies, strengthens, and makes His people fruitful in due season.

The Lord of the harvest knows the timing of our harvest and where we will reap it, even when we do not. He is a strategic harvester who prepares the field, appoints the season, provides the increase, and positions His people to gather what He has produced. Because He sees what we cannot see, believers can trust His timing, follow His direction, and remain faithful in preparation until the harvest is ready.

The harvest is not based on the skill of the sower alone. The field belongs to the Lord of the harvest, and He is the One who gives growth, appoints the season, and positions His people to reap what He has produced. Our responsibility is to sow faithfully, prepare wisely, and trust that God will lead us to the harvest in His perfect timing.

Our harvest is not limited to the spiritual area of life. For some, the harvest may come through renewed strength, deeper faith, and greater spiritual maturity. For others, it may appear as financial provision, restored relationships, career advancement, educational progress, new opportunities, emotional healing, or long-awaited answered prayers. The Lord of the harvest knows what each person needs, where each seed has been planted, and when the fruit is ready to appear. Therefore, believers should remain faithful, prayerful, and prepared, trusting that God can bring increase in every area of life according to His will and His perfect timing.

Get ready and stay ready, because God is preparing you to receive and steward the provision He has released over your life. New doors are opening, fresh opportunities are coming, and the favor of the Lord is already working on your behalf. Walk with expectation, remain faithful in preparation, and trust that God will position you to harvest what He has promised in His appointed time.

Lord of the harvest, make me faithful, available, and ready to serve in the field You have prepared.
