So that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me. Acts 26:18
Sanctification is the continuing work of God through which He sets us apart for His purposes and forms us into the likeness of Christ. Acts 26:18 shows that this work is inseparably connected to faith in Jesus. Faith is not only the doorway into salvation, but also the means by which we continue to experience forgiveness, cleansing, and transformation. As we trust Christ, He brings us out of darkness and into a life increasingly marked by holiness.
This makes clear that sanctification is not accomplished by human effort alone. We do not become holy simply by striving harder or attempting to manage ourselves in our own strength. Rather, sanctification flows from a living and active faith that surrenders old patterns, yields to God’s truth, and trusts Him to change what we cannot change on our own. Every act of obedience, every refusal to return to bondage, and every decision to believe God’s Word becomes part of this sanctifying process.
The image of a silversmith refining silver helps illustrate this truth. The fire is not meant to destroy the silver, but to remove what is impure until the silversmith’s image is reflected more clearly. In the same way, faith keeps us surrendered in God’s hands during seasons of refining, trusting that He is using every process to purify our hearts, renew our minds, and make us more like Christ. What God begins through faith, He continues through faith until His glory is increasingly revealed in us.
Question for Reflection
What area of your life is God calling you to surrender more fully so that His sanctifying work can continue in you?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You that I am sanctified by faith in You. Continue to set me apart for Your purposes, cleanse my heart, renew my mind, and help me walk in the light of the new life You have given me. Strengthen my faith so that I may live in obedience, freedom, and holiness each day. Amen.
