Start each Day with Gratitude
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:4
When we wake up in the morning, our first response should be gratitude. Every new day is a gift from God, and the simple fact that we have been given another opportunity to live, love, serve, grow, and fulfill His purpose is reason enough to give thanks. Psalm 100:4 calls us to “enter his gates with thanksgiving,” reminding us that gratitude is an appropriate way to enter God’s presence and begin our day. Before reaching for our phones, checking emails, scrolling through social media, or turning to the news, we should first turn our hearts toward God and thank Him for the gift of another morning.
Gratitude also has the power to shape the way we see our circumstances. Because God’s mercies are renewed every morning, we can begin the day looking for evidence of His presence, provision, and goodness rather than immediately focusing on problems and pressures. A thankful heart does not pretend that life is perfect or deny genuine struggles; instead, it helps us recognize that difficulty and blessing can exist at the same time. Gratitude trains our eyes to notice God’s fingerprints on the ordinary parts of life that we might otherwise take for granted.
Imagine putting on a pair of glasses with a different lens. The circumstances around you have not changed, but the lens affects what you notice and how clearly you see it. Gratitude works in much the same way: work can become an opportunity rather than merely an obligation, relationships can be appreciated rather than taken for granted, and everyday provisions such as transportation, shelter, food, and companionship can be recognized as blessings rather than overlooked as expectations. Gratitude does not necessarily change what is happening around us, but it can profoundly change how we experience it.
Make gratitude an intentional part of your morning routine. Before asking God for anything, thank Him for something—for life, family, health, provision, another opportunity, His mercy, or simply His presence. Beginning the day with thanksgiving can influence the way we approach responsibilities, relationships, disappointments, and opportunities that follow. Before the demands of the day begin to speak to you, let gratitude be the first voice you choose to hear.
Question for Reflection:
What are three things you can thank God for before you begin your day today?
Prayer:Lord, help me begin each day with gratitude, recognize Your goodness in every season, and carry a thankful heart with me throughout the day.
