Reliable Sources

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Years ago, most people were relying on newspapers for the news in their community and around the world. Then came television, which made local, national, and international events more accessible to most people. The explosion and popularity of social media have increased the number of sources for knowing what is going on around the world.

Yet we now know many news sources are unreliable. Any false rumor can go viral with some people assuming that it is factual. This begs the question of why people believe what they read on social media or see on television without verifying the veracity of the information. It is no wonder why some people are frustrated with all forms of media outlets and have decided not to use their services or rely on their sources.

Thank goodness the Bible remains a true and reliable source that has withstood the test of time. Despite its many critics and attempts to discredit the Bible, it remains the living word of God that is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and for training in righteousness. Even some of the critics of the Bible use it as a source of inspiration at times.

The Bible may not address every topic, but it provides inspiration and instruction for dealing with any issue. Its principles transcend time and have been proven to be reliable throughout human history. Because the Bible is divinely inspired, we can trust its reliability and find comfort in its teachings. Whereas all human news outlets or forms of social media have a predetermined agenda with the ultimate goal of being financially profitable, the Bible seeks to draw us closer to God and help us to be transformed into the image of Christ. It is no wonder the Bible remains the most printed book and the most discussed religious literature in human history.

The Bible offers the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. This news is embodied in the birth, life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Though this news cannot be refuted it can only be experienced through surrendering to the Lordship of Christ by confessing with one’s mouth and believing in one’s heart that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Those who want to learn about their divine purpose can go to the Bible. The weary can find strength in reading the Bible; the hopeless can find hope in times of despair. During this Christmas season, many people have used the Christmas story to find joy and peace in a world of strife and brokenness.

How can one book influence human experience so profoundly? Why do so many people continue to use the Bible as their reliable source to enhance their spirituality and make their human experience more meaningful? Because “all Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work”

Prayer- Blessed Lord, thank you for providing your word in scripture for my correction and training in righteousness. May your Holy Spirit convict me to hide your word in my heart, so I do not sin against you. Please give me an obedient spirit so I can do what I’m instructed to do in your word.
