I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5
Positioning is critical for effective harvesting. Too many people are expecting a harvest while standing in the wrong field, working outside of God’s assignment, or holding on to places He has already called them to leave. The Lord of the harvest not only determines the timing of the harvest, but He also directs His people to the field where the harvest is ready. Therefore, believers must seek His guidance, follow His instructions, and allow Him to position them where their obedience, gifts, and faithfulness can produce lasting fruit.
Imagine a farmer expecting a corn harvest while standing in a potato field. No matter how sincere his expectation may be, he cannot reap what was never planted in that place. In the same way, it is not enough to expect a harvest or even prepare for one; we must be led by the Spirit of God into the right field, the right season, and the right assignment. The Lord of the harvest knows where our seeds have been planted, where our obedience will be fruitful, and where He has already prepared provision for us. Therefore, positioning ourselves for the harvest requires prayer, discernment, obedience, and a willingness to move when God leads.
In John 15:5, Jesus highlights the importance of spiritual positioning. He tells His disciples that the only way they can bear much fruit is by remaining in Him. To remain in Christ means to stay connected to Him through faith, prayer, obedience, worship, His Word, and continual dependence on the Holy Spirit. Just as a branch cannot produce fruit if it is disconnected from the vine, believers cannot produce lasting spiritual fruit apart from Christ. This positioning is necessary because fruitfulness does not come from human effort alone; it comes from staying close to the One who gives life, strength, wisdom, and increase. When we remain in Christ, we are positioned to hear His voice, follow His direction, receive His power, and bear the kind of fruit that honors God and lasts beyond the season.
Ultimately, every believer is destined to reap a harvest if they remain connected to the Lord of the harvest. God is faithful, and He knows how to bring fruit from every seed of obedience, prayer, sacrifice, and faithfulness. Unfortunately, too many believers become discouraged when the harvest is delayed, and they allow the cares of life, the pressure of circumstances, and the voice of the enemy to pull them away from the spiritual position necessary for fruitfulness. This is why remaining in Christ is so important. When believers stay rooted in prayer, grounded in God’s Word, obedient to His direction, and sensitive to the Holy Spirit, they remain positioned to receive, recognize, and steward the harvest God has prepared for them.
Reflection Question
Are you spiritually positioned where God wants you to be, or have discouragement, distraction, or fear pulled you away from the place of obedience where your harvest is waiting?
Prayer
Lord, keep me rooted in Christ, sensitive to Your Spirit, and obedient to Your direction so I can be rightly positioned to receive and steward the harvest You have prepared for me.
