Making Room for the Harvest

Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved. Matthew 9:17
Making room for the harvest is critical because we can miss or waste what God is bringing if our lives are too crowded to recognize it. Too many people fail to realize they are in a season of harvest because their hearts, schedules, priorities, and minds are filled with clutter. When distractions, old habits, unnecessary commitments, fear, bitterness, or disorder take up too much space, they can keep us from receiving and stewarding the opportunities God has prepared. To make room for the harvest, we must clear what no longer belongs, create space for obedience, and position ourselves to recognize, receive, and manage what God is releasing in this season.
In Matthew 9:17, Jesus teaches that new wine cannot be poured into old wineskins because the old structure cannot hold the new substance. The problem is not the wine; the problem is the container. In the same way, God may be preparing to release new opportunities, new assignments, new provision, new relationships, and new fruitfulness, but we must be willing to make room for what He is doing.
Making room for the harvest means releasing what no longer belongs in this season. It may require letting go of old mindsets, unhealthy attachments, wasted time, unfruitful patterns, or anything that competes with obedience. New wine requires new wineskins, and a new harvest often requires a renewed heart, a disciplined life, and a surrendered spirit. God may not pour the fullness of the harvest into places we refuse to prepare.
Making room for the harvest is an act of faith. It says, “Lord, I believe You are doing something new, and I am willing to be changed so I can receive it.” God is not only interested in what He can give us; He is also forming who we must become to carry it well. When we clear the clutter, surrender our plans, and allow the Holy Spirit to renew us, we become prepared vessels for the harvest God has appointed.
Reflection Question
What clutter, mindset, habit, or attachment do you need to release so you can make room for the harvest God is bringing?
Prayer
Lord, remove anything in me that cannot carry what You are preparing to release, and make me a renewed vessel ready to receive and steward the harvest with faithfulness.
