God is in control of the Harvest

I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. 1 Corinthians 3:6-7

It is a mistake to assume that we are solely responsible for our harvest. None of us has the capacity, ability, or resources to produce true and lasting fruit apart from God. Everything we receive, accomplish, and become is made possible by His grace and mercy. We are completely dependent on His lovingkindness, and we are called to live, serve, and steward our harvest according to His divine plan and purpose.

Psalm 127:1 reminds us that “unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” This scripture teaches us that human effort, skill, planning, and labor are limited without God’s involvement and blessing. It reminds us that God is in control of every aspect of our lives, including our harvest. We may plant, water, work, and prepare, but only God can give the increase. Therefore, our responsibility is not to depend solely on our own strength, but to trust the Lord, follow His direction, and remain faithful stewards of what He has placed in our hands.

The harvest belongs to God. While we have a responsibility to plant faithfully, water diligently, serve consistently, and steward wisely, we must never forget that the power to bring increase comes from Him alone. Paul reminds the church in 1 Corinthians 3:6–7 that one person may plant and another may water, but only God gives the increase. Human effort has a role, but divine power produces the result. We can prepare the soil, sow the seed, and nurture what has been entrusted to us, but true and lasting fruitfulness can only come through the grace, mercy, and faithfulness of God.

This truth keeps us humble in seasons of success and steady in seasons of waiting. When the harvest comes, we should not assume it is the result of our own wisdom, strength, resources, or ability; every blessing, open door, accomplishment, and fruitful season is evidence of God’s hand at work. At the same time, when the harvest seems delayed, we do not have to become anxious or discouraged because the same God who controls the increase also controls the timing, process, and outcome. Our assignment is faithfulness, not ownership. We are stewards in the field, called to obey God’s instructions, serve with humility, and trust that no seed planted in faith is wasted when it is placed in His hands.
