Faith comes by hearing

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

Many people do not realize that faith is not only something we believe, but something we express through our words. Scripture shows us that faith has a voice. Moses was instructed to speak to the rock so that it would produce water, yet he struck it instead, missing the power of obedience to God’s spoken instruction. In contrast, Jesus spoke, and Lazarus was raised from the dead, demonstrating the authority and power released through faith-filled words. These examples remind us that God often works through what we say when our words are aligned with His will.

At the same time, there are many voices competing for our attention, and not all of them lead us toward truth. Some seek to confuse, distort, and disrupt our spiritual focus, pulling us away from God if we are not discerning. This is why it is essential to anchor ourselves in God’s Word so that we can clearly recognize His voice above every other. Consider the example of a young man overwhelmed by fear who continually rehearsed negative thoughts until he began to fill his mind with Scripture. As he consistently heard God’s Word, his perspective changed, his confidence grew, and faith began to replace fear in his life.

Too often, believers remain silent in moments that require a faith response, allowing fear and anxiety to dictate their words and actions. Yet when we use our faith voice, we align ourselves with God’s truth and begin to declare His promises over our lives. Faith grows as we hear, receive, and internalize the Word of God, shaping how we think, speak, and respond. The voices we choose to listen to will either strengthen or weaken our faith, but when we prioritize God’s Word, we develop a steady and resilient confidence in Him. Therefore, we are called to speak life, hope, and truth, refusing to let our faith be silenced, and trusting that as we declare what God has said, we will walk in the victory He has already provided.

Reflection Question

What voices are influencing your thoughts right now, and how can you intentionally make God’s Word the primary voice you listen to?

Prayer

Lord, help me to fill my heart with Your Word so that I can use my faith-voice to live victoriously each day.
