Do Not Force the New Season

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Psalm 37:7

A new season can create excitement, urgency, and a strong desire to see things happen quickly. After praying, preparing, and waiting for change, believers may be tempted to push doors open, rush decisions, or manufacture opportunities because they fear missing what God has prepared. Yet Psalm 37:7 instructs us to “be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” Waiting on God is not inactivity; it is disciplined trust that believes He knows not only what He has planned for us, but also the right time, the right way, and the right conditions for that plan to unfold.

For this reason, believers must learn to distinguish between moving by faith and moving ahead of God. Moving by faith means responding obediently when God gives direction, even when the path is unfamiliar or uncertain. Moving ahead of God, however, often grows out of impatience, fear, pressure, or personal ambition. Abraham and Sarah experienced the consequences of trying to bring about God’s promise through Hagar rather than waiting for Isaac, the son God had promised. Their experience reminds us that receiving a promise from God does not give us permission to control the process or determine the timing.

Imagine taking a loaf of bread out of the oven before it has finished baking. The outside may appear ready, but the inside still needs time to develop. Removing it too soon does not improve or accelerate the process; it interferes with what the proper amount of time was designed to accomplish. In the same way, while we are waiting, God may be preparing our character, resources, relationships, opportunities, and circumstances in ways we cannot yet see. What feels like delay may actually be development, and God’s timing is not wasted time; it is often preparation time.

Therefore, resist the temptation to force a new season simply because you are tired of waiting. Pray for patience, remain sensitive to the Holy Spirit, and faithfully steward what God has already placed in your hands. Moving by faith allows us to walk with greater peace, joy, confidence, and fruitfulness because we are following God’s lead, while moving ahead of Him can create unnecessary anxiety, frustration, and disappointment. Do not force the new season; trust the God who prepared it to also know when you are ready to enter it.

Lord, give me the patience to wait for Your timing, the wisdom to recognize Your direction, and the faith to move only when You lead.
