Be Faithful Before You Become Fruitful

Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. Luke 16:10

The relationship between faithfulness and fruitfulness is a consistent theme throughout Scripture. Fruitfulness may be the visible result that others eventually recognize, but faithfulness is often the quiet, steady work that makes that fruitfulness possible. Before God expands our influence, increases our responsibilities, or opens greater opportunities, He often looks at how well we have stewarded what He has already placed in our hands. Faithfulness demonstrates readiness, which is why stewardship often becomes the pathway to expansion.

Jesus emphasized this principle in Luke 16:10 when He taught that whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much. Faithfulness is not measured by the size or visibility of an assignment, but by the integrity, consistency, excellence, and obedience with which we carry it out. A responsibility does not have to appear important to others in order to matter to God. How we manage the small, ordinary, and sometimes unnoticed assignments of today can reveal whether we are prepared to handle the greater responsibilities of tomorrow.

Imagine a farmer who continually asks for more land while neglecting the small field he already owns. If he refuses to prepare the soil, plant the seeds, remove the weeds, and care for what is growing, receiving additional acreage will not make him more fruitful; it will only give him more land to neglect. In the same way, we can become so focused on asking God for a larger ministry, a better position, greater influence, increased resources, or a more successful business that we overlook what He has already entrusted to us. Before asking God to enlarge what is in our hands, we should first consider how faithfully we are managing what is already there.

As you enter a new season, do not become so preoccupied with where you hope to go that you neglect where God has placed you today. Be faithful with the small opportunity, the limited resources, the unnoticed assignment, and the responsibilities that may seem ordinary. Show up consistently, honor your commitments, serve with excellence, and give God your best even when no one else appears to be watching. Fruitfulness is ultimately God’s work, but faithfulness is our responsibility; therefore, do not wait until you become fruitful to become faithful. Be faithful now, and trust God with the increase that follows.
