Then the LORD God formed a man[c] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Genesis 2:7
The Hebrew word for breath is the same word for Spirit. When God breathed himself into Adam, he breathed his Spirit in him. Therefore, humanity cannot exist without the Spirit of God. It is the Spirit that gives us physical and spiritual life. God’s Spirit upholds and sustains us.
However, after the sin of Adam and Eve, the Spirit of God became dormant. It needed to be reactivated so our spiritual and physical connection with God can be restored. That reactivation comes by surrendering one’s life to Jesus Christ. Without a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit cannot be prompted to enable us unto righteousness. Therefore, when someone is in Christ, he or she is a new creature because the Lord has breathed his Spirit in that person once again so he or she can walk in the renewing of his or her mind.
Every day we wake up, we should ask the Lord to breathe on us again. Some people are spiritually dead and need God to breathe on them again. Without that divine breath, Adam would not have been a living being. Sin kills our relationship with God and our knowledge of our true selves. In James 1:14-15, we read, “But each one is tempted by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is fully grown, gives birth to death.” Thus, we need the Lord to breathe on us again so we can be resurrected into a new life through Christ Jesus.
As we tabernacle in the flesh, there will be many dead areas in our lives that we cannot revive by ourselves. Only the breath of God can bring these dead areas to life. Perhaps you need God to breathe on a dead marriage or, a dead business venture, or a dead relationship with a family member or business partner. Some may need God to breathe on a dead ministry. Maybe your health is declining and the doctor has given you a death sentence. It is not too late to ask God to breathe on you again.
The breath of God is not only life-giving, but it is also joy restoring, and peace offering. God’s breath empowers the weak and gives rest to the weary. The world is sustained by the breath of God. God’s divine breath helps to break the shackles that entrap us and cause us to live in desperation.
On this day, I am asking God to breathe on this country and the world so people can stop dying from COVID-19. I need God to breathe on the economy of this country so we can start recovering from the recession. As the number of Christians that are losing their faith and going back into the world continues to rise, I need God to breathe on the Church afresh so there can be a revival.
Up until God breathed into Adam, he was as an inanimate object. He had a body with all the physical parts, but he had no life. One may have everything the world has to offer and still do not have a life worth living. That is why we ought to prioritize our relationship with God. It is God who gives meaning to life. We need God to reactivate his breath in us through prayer and personal spiritual devotion so we can be revived and live in the joy of the Lord.
Prayer- Blessed Lord, please breathe on your creation today. We need you to breathe in our country, our economy, our health, and your Church.
