The Rythm of God

For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Romans 11:36 NIV

During my devotion time this morning, the Lord told me that he has a rhythm; and that the world is created according to his rhythm. I did not know what he meant. Nor did I ever thought about God’s rhythm before. But as the Holy Spirit started to pour the thoughts into my mind, I realized it makes sense.

God’s rhythm permeates all of creation. For example, just as God rested in the seventh day, every created thing needs rest. Without rest, our immune system weakens, and we become prone to disease. The earth has to rest to yield its harvest more abundantly. In the Bible, it is said the land must rest every seventh year. There have been many crop failures throughout the world because people are not allowing the earth to rest.

God created the different seasons of the year, and they influence the rhythm of our bodies. Because he is a God of community (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), he created us to be social beings. Every human being longs for community and fellowship. Without a sense of community, we can become narcissistic and predatory.

The rhythm of God synchronizes our spirit. Our true self (spirit-being) is often in conflict with our carnal self because the spirit longs to be in its natural habitat with God. No human being is ever fully satisfied with the material things of life. We are always looking to get more and find more satisfaction. Only when our spirit-self connects with God through his Holy Spirit, do we feel satisfied and actualized.

Our relationship with one another is but a microcosm of our relationship with God. Therefore, the Bible commands us to love one another as the Lord loves us. The rhythm of God’s love provides the context for us to love one another. Thus, we are only able to love others as we are intentional about reflecting the love of God.

The rhythm of God’s holiness should saturate our worship of his glorious name. When we worship according to the rhythm of holiness, we present our bodies as a living sacrifice to the Almighty God. Therefore, the songs we sing, the offerings we make, and the service we offer become sanctified. Then the Lord is able to delight in our worship because it flows according to his rhythm.

In John 3:16 we are told: “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son…” That eternal gift is part of God’s rhythm of grace. God’s grace is amazing and unfailing. It cannot be earned, and no one deserves it. Grace is the way the Almighty serenades our hearts and dances with us through the vicissitudes of life. It is the cadence of his love and the tempo of his mercy.

Those who allow the rhythm of God to determine the shape of their lives are more fulfilled in their day to day existence and experience. They have the inexplicable joy that the world cannot offer. There is a peace that surpasses all understanding that comes to those who aligned their selves according to the rhythm of God. The best thing we can do is to walk each day with the Lord and in the rhythm of his holiness.

Prayer- Blessed Lord, teach us how to walk each day according to the rhythm of your holiness.
