Sold out for Jesus

I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. Philippians 1:20

Today’s text reflects the determination and zeal of a man who is totally sold out for Jesus. Picture this—if you will—you are in prison for a crime you did not commit with no idea whether you will ever be set free. You know there is a bounty on your head, and the only thing you trust is that God will make sure you give one last testimony about Jesus before you are killed.

The resiliency and unwavering trust of Paul in God are impressive. However, I am sure Paul was not trying to impress anyone. He was totally sold out for Jesus. That is why his perspective about his condition is so uplifting.

What does it mean to be sold out for Jesus? It means praising God in pain, trusting him in our trials, and worshipping him in our weaknesses. People who are sold out for Jesus find the strength to rejoice in suffering. They prioritize their service to the Lord over everything and everyone. Those brothers and sisters have accepted the call to discipleship and willingly deny themselves to advance the gospel agenda.

Jesus died at Calvary so we can be free from eternal damnation. He gave up his life so we can reclaim our lives. The best gift we can give the Lord is to give our lives back to him. In today’s text, Paul is telling the saints at Philippi that God will not disappoint him. He is confident that his zeal in the Lord will be rewarded, even if he has to die. Therefore, he is determined to live in such a way that Christ will be exalted in his body, whether by life or by death.

Simply stated, Paul wanted to live for Christ and die for the Savior. He did not covet longevity or earthly comfort because he was sold out for Jesus. Paul was singularly focused on his God-given mission, and would not even allow imprisonment to get in his way to proclaim the name of Jesus.

People who are sold out for Jesus always find a way to let others name about the Savior. Because of their faithfulness to the Lord, the Holy Spirit gives them sufficient courage to exalt the name of Jesus in their body at all times. Many of these brothers and sisters have or will be martyred for the sake of Jesus.

What is keeping you from being sold out for Jesus? The way I see it, God is an all or nothing type of God. Jesus does not need half-baked followers. A marriage where the couple is not fully committed to one another cannot last. We can only experience the fullness of God’s power when we are sold out to Jesus.

God has secrets that he only reveals to those who are sold out to him. Some experiences are reserved only to those that are sold out to Jesus. Believers that are not sold out for Jesus would often feel stuck in a spiritual rut. The darkness of this world easily eclipses Their spiritual light.

Jesus was sold out for our salvation. He was totally committed to suffer and die so we can have eternal life. Let us, therefore, pray for the courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in our body, whether by life or by death.

Prayer- Blessed Lord, please give us the spiritual courage always to exalt Christ in our body, whether by life or by death.
