Our Secret Weapon

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

Russia has been very aggressive recently in establishing itself as the most powerful military country in the world. Its newly developed “Avangard hypersonic missiles fly 27 times faster than the speed of sound, making it impossible to intercept. Vladimir Putin has recently stated that Russia is ready for the next Cuban Missile-like crisis; but that this time Russia will not back down. Moreover, Russia released footage of a nuclear-powered submarine drone designed to unleash radioactive tsunamis against the world’s coastal cities called ‘apocalypse torpedo.’

The word of God is the secret weapon given to followers of Jesus Christ to wage war against the enemy. In today’s text, the word is described as a double-edged sword. This weapon is not made with human hand. It is mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.

When the word is proclaimed, demonic spirits are cast out, diseases can be healed, and failed marriages can be fixed. The word has life-generating power. It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit. It is transformational and transgenerational. It convicts the sinful hearts and convinces the repentant soul.

The devil tried to use the word of God as a weapon against Jesus in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11). He knows the power of the word and has even used it against many believers through deception. In some cases, he uses the word to make us feel guilty and ashamed; thus we don’t pray, and we are prone to quit on God.

Many Christians do not know the most effective use of this secret weapon given to us by our heavenly father. Because they seldom read the word, they are not knowledgeable about the potency of the word and are inconsistent in its application. Thus they are easily defeated or deterred in their faith walk.

Through Christ Jesus, we have already won the war against our spiritual enemy. Yet the enemy has not surrendered. He is still on the attack. 1 Peter 5:8 says he prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. But James 4:7 says if we resist him, he will flee from us.

The only way to resist him is with the word of God. The word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. The word of God exposes demonic schemes and plots, and it neutralizes the works of demonic powers and principalities. It has the power to make believers wise unto eternal life.

John 1:1 says the word became flesh and dwelled among us through Jesus Christ. Therefore, the word of God is not an expression of God; it is the manifestation of God in our midst. That is why the devil is afraid of it and tries all it can to keep us from reading and understanding it.

The word of God has the power to reveal to us godly things that we could not know in any other way. It has the power to refute false ideologies. It is the standard against which all philosophies, beliefs, ideas, and proposed solutions for the human condition can be measured for accuracy. According to Luke 8:11 the word of God has the power to bring forth personal and spiritual growth. It also has the power to keep us from going astray (1Peter 2:25). The Psalmist proclaims that the word has the power to revive us (Psalm 138:7).

Prayer- Blessed Lord, teach us how to use the full arsenal of your word so we can live in victory and not defeat.
